Matagorda Beach

Matagorda Beach Fishing

Matagorda County is home to almost 55 miles of the Gulf of Mexico’s shoreline. Twenty three miles of beach is accessible by automobile at the mouth of the Colorado. The remaining thirty-five miles is accessible only by boat, making it an unblemished paradise isolated from much of the public. People wishing to drive on the beach can take the beach access road three-quarters of a mile north of Jetty Park for direct access to twenty miles of beach open to vehicle traffic. Be aware that the sand is often soft and the beach and a 4×4 is often required. If you are not ready to drive onto the beach, there is paved parking at Jetty Park which provides beach access. A beach permit is required to drive a vehicle on the beach and glass containers are not permitted. The fee is $10.00 annually and can be purchased at the beach entrance or from most local merchants.
