Matagorda Independent School District
One of the first buildings constructed in the winter of 1829 by the first permanent settlers to Matagorda was a log cabin with a dirt floor for a schoolhouse. Providing a quality education has always been important to the citizens of Matagorda.
The current school was built in 1970 and has undergone a major renovation focusing on academics, early childhood development, wellness & fitness, and technology. Laura Shay is the superintendent of MISD and can be reached at: (979) 863-7693
Any time, day or night, the volunteers of the Matagorda Fire Department selflessly respond to grass or structure fires and emergency medical needs. Be sure to support their fundraisers; the Memorial Day barbeque and the Matagorda Day in October.
