The Matagorda Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and displaying the township’s history for the people who love this community, whether they are permanent residents or visitors. We desire to collect, acquire on loan historical artifacts and present to the public the history of this small but historically important township, which played a very important part in helping Texas gain its independence from Mexico.  From maintaining three historical buildings and surrounding grounds at the Matagorda Heritage Park, to erecting historical markers in our cemetery and other historical locations in the township as well as several ongoing preservation projects, our mission has and always will be to preserve the history for generations to follow not only for our members but for the township, county and the State of Texas and tourists from places near and far. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and all our officers and staff are strictly unpaid volunteers.
