Matagorda Bay Nature Park ...
The Lower Colorado River Authority opened Matagorda Bay Nature Park and Natural Science Center in late 2006. This is a 1,600 acre ecological treasure at the mouth of the Colorado River on the Matagorda Peninsula. Purchased in 2001, the nature park and preserve provides recreation, education and relaxation. From camping to canoeing and bird watching to beachcombing, the nature park has something for everyone. Facilities include public fishing piers, wildlife viewing platforms, a pavilion, a playground, canoe/kayak trails, rest rooms with outdoor showers, recreational vehicle sites and a learning center/meeting facility.
