Matagorda Heritage Days

The annual Matagorda Day celebration is designed to honor the town’s heritage and those who made its shores a historical landmark for Texas. It also celebrates the exciting future that lay ahead. Last year’s theme, “A Unique Past, A Bright Future!” said it all. The local Chamber of Commerce and local clubs and businesses sponsor the day. The EMS, Volunteer Fire Department and VFW cook up a great feast and vendors and clubs sell their wares. We parade through town, crown a “little” king and queen, remember the past and learn about the future. Come one, come all. It’s a day not to miss.

Christmas Sail-A-Bration

The Matagorda Christmas Yuletide Sailabration is our lighted Christmas boat parade held annually in Matagorda Harbor. Spectators that line the harbor and river are treated to Christmas carols while the community shows off their boats dressed in a spectacle of lights and Christmas themes. Prizes are awarded each year for the best boats and a raffle is held to benefit the Matagorda Crisis Center. The evening is concluded with a spectacular fireworks show hosted by STP Nuclear Operating Company. The parade is held every December the week after shrimp season closes. The 2004 parade will be held December 18th. There is no entry fee to join the parade, so plan your December festivities to join us. Everyone is welcome!
