If you are looking for a hot fishing spot, a fun day at the beach, a leisure kayaking trip down the Colorado River, or a chance to view a multitude of shore birds, then come on down to Matagorda County and be our guest!
The Matagorda Area Chamber is made up of the communities of Matagorda, Selkirk, Wadsworth and the surrounding vicinity. Matagorda township is located at the mouth of the Colorado River south down Highway 60 from Bay City and on the Gulf of Mexico. Founded in 1827, a part of Stephen F. Austin's original "old three hundred" colony, it is the third oldest Anglo town in Texas, rich in history and offers a vast range of recreational and business opportunities.
Relax and enjoy the ambiance of our town, stay in a motel or lodge, a historic bed and breakfast, rent an RV space or just pitch a tent on the beach. Matagorda County is home to more than 60 miles of the Gulf of Mexico's shoreline.
